Currently, our world leaders are meeting at the 27th UN Climate Conference (COP27) in Sharm-el-Sheikh, Egypt, to consider an action plan to address climate change.
ISO is also present at the summit to make it clear that international standards are the perfect means to translate climate agreements into action. To this end, it launched at COP27 IWA 42: Guidelines for 'Net Zero'.
IWA (International Workshop Agreement) 42 is a document that provides a universal definition of net zero or net zero. It provides recommendations for a global, common approach to achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions. And it does so through voluntary initiatives, standards, policies and national and international regulations.
Net zero or net zero is a state in which total greenhouse gas emissions are less than or equal to the emissions it removes from the atmosphere. When you reach net zero, global warming stops. And that is a necessity to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement.
